I have a confession to make.
When I was about the age of 7, a family friend read my palm and she mentioned a few things about me to my parents. Being a Christian, we do not believe in such thing: not especially palm reading where people tell you “your future”. I still remember every single word she said, but I can only tell you one of the “prediction” she made.
“When you grow up, you will get a lot of money but you will also spend money like water.”
OK. I do not have a lot of money. (even if I do, I wouldn’t wanna tell you, would I? LOL) but she was right on the spend money like water part. I can bring (for example) RM1000 cash with me to a shopping mall and spend it all in less than 3 hours. I could sit in front of my Notebook, surfing the Net for online shops and spend $300 in less than an hour. I can shop for new clothes every weekend and totally forgotten about them. In fact, yesterday, when I cleaned my closet, I found 2 bags filled with new clothes still intact with price tags: never worn. Remember the uZap King that I bought a few months ago? Tell you the truth: I’ve only used it like 4 or 5 times before I packed it up and kept it under the bed.
Then last month, I purchased some books online with a shipping charge that cost 3x the price of the books itself.

Isn’t that crazy? .. all because I think it’s cute.
And last week when my brother told me what he planned to buy for our dad on Christmas day, I immediately plan to get him some leather home theater seating to complement with the “thing” my brother planned to get.
So you see, here’s the problem. I can’t afford a home theater seating, let alone a leather one! But if I am determined enough, I would find every possible way to get that money: staying extra late to do more paid postings perhaps. Hahaha!
My point here is, this has got to stop. OK, maybe I can’t totally stop it, but maybe I could lessen my money-spending and learn how to save them for rainy days perhaps. Besides, I have always wanted to go on a vacation with my family and friends. Maybe this is the time to start saving.
Uhuh. I think this is what I my New Year’s resolution should be: SAVE MONEY
Now why am I telling you all this?
Because I feel like talking to someone. I have been denying it to my family and friends all these time. I never want to admit how crazy I am when it comes to spending my money on unnecessary stuff. But at least I am finally admitting it now. :-P
So, are you a shoppaholic too?

ouch..thts is one bad habit lah..but i tottaly agreed with u when it comes to ’saving money for the rainy days’ tht term suit me as a rubber tapper since we cant make money during rainy days hehhe…
Cindy: I think the term “rainy days” was created by a rubber tapper lah, kan zaini? hehehe…

Man, you can spend RM1,000 in 3 hours? Gee, that’s like my whole months salary …
Oh, why am I not rich? Why? why? somebody please tell me why?!!! LOL!
Cindy: You’re in the advertising company, so Nick.. by now you should know who to target when it comes to advertising for new stuff. WOMEN! LOL!

Through my research in optimal spending behaviour I have found that there are only two ways to cure shopaholititis:
1) Earn more than you spend
2) Spend less than you earn
And because you’re such a sweetheart, I’m giving you these tips for free
Cindy: Aww.. you’re such a sweetie, Azmeen. Thanks for the tips! I’ll try to earn more than I spend from now onward. :-P

Oh my…I thought I was bad
…now you make me feel better!! hahaha…
But I believe as long as you oredi set aside $$ for your saving and other commitments, then you’re allowed to splurge on yourself once in a while
Otherwise, like you said, endure on “panda eyes” to do paid posts!!
Cindy: I like how you think, Aunty J! Hehehe.. Either I set aside some money or I endure late nights for paid post! :-P

I was one of those who spend-money-like-water (but perhaps not as “terrer” as you lah) and being married CURED that.
So Mr Cindy-BF, what are you waiting for.
Cindy: Eh.. takut sia ni statement tau.. Jangan encourage dia!! Hahahaha!

aiseyman! siok bah shopping kan, esp when sales gilababs… anyway, once in a while can splurge la kan – but like you said, better put aside the money for your holidays.. lagi worth it..
Cindy: Ya, perhaps saving money and spend it at one go on a certain day (holidays perhaps) would be a very good idea! Hmm..

Why this post sounds soooooooooooo the very familiar ah???
You Ms. Rebecca Bloomwood *cough* Cindy…LOL
If u havent read Confession of a Shopaholic then u must….there is ONE very good tip to make more money at the end of the story….but u need to sacrifice something lah….bah head to the store now and buy the book. Just don’t look at other things like cute pen, cute note book, cute cooking books…LOL!
Cindy: Hmm.. I think I might just do that some time. But the problem is, the last time I went to the bookstore, I end up buying some cute girly notebook, stickers and a few stacks of women’s magazine.. -_-

I guess the bright side is that you make money blogging right?
At any rate, I know what you mean. I’ve been accused of spending money like water (and I’ve purchased my fair share of silly things but books aren’t silly!!) Shopping is therapy! (but you are right. I need to start saving too.)
Cindy: Ohh.. I love you for this, Erin! YES, shopping is therapy!! :-D

There’s a shopaholic in every woman. Hehe! That’s what I think la. Classic advice, if the thing still bothers you after a few days then go and buy it. Don’t know if this will help. Good luck!
Cindy: That’s the thing: I laid eyes on some stuff I like and it “haunts” me for days. In the end, I had to buy it. :-(
But it was a good advice. Thanks, Em! :-)

Cindy… I’m with you on the saving part! Next time, if you go out to the mall don’t bring so much money with you and leave that credit card at home! LOL
Cindy: I’ll try my best to save from now onward. Hehehe. Oh, I have no problems with credit card. I can bring them around and not spend on it at all. At least I can still control myself on that part.
November 22nd, 2007 at 11:37 pm
*laughs* Oh I know what you mean. I try try try my best not to overdo my shopping, but there are just too many things that call out to me.
I’m sure you’ll settle it somehow. You can do it!
Cindy: I can do it!
November 22nd, 2007 at 11:42 pm
I’m with Jewelle and chegu Carol. When you get married, all the things you want to buy are for your kids, mesti ada tin susu, diapers, makanan, etc.
Bah, jangan tunggu lama-lama… hehehe
Cindy: Eii.. sia belum ready lagi ni! LOL
November 22nd, 2007 at 11:55 pm
I think I’m with you on this gurl.. I admit, I’m also a shoppaholic in denial! LOL!

last week the boutique owner of a boutique i always visit asked me :”how come i see u buying alot from here but i never see u wear?”
that’s why i said i am a freak, i buy and i keep it in my wardrobe.. then after a long long time only i thought of wearing it! sometimes i can’t even wear cos i gained weight.. sigh
Cindy: HAHAHAHAHA! That sounded just like me. Bought a few clothes but never get to wear them. By the time I feel like trying it on, I can’t: because I’ve gained weight! LOL
November 23rd, 2007 at 12:43 pm

November 23rd, 2007 at 5:18 pm
Trust me Cindy, I used to be much worse than that but now I’m CURED!!! LOL.. I used to buy clothes that don’t fit me cuz I said nevermind nanti I lose weight and muat jugak tu! Tengok2 tidakkk jugak lose weight and terbiar la the baju jeans and whatever there! LOL!
But then again, if you can afford it. Why not right?? Shopping isn’t bad. It’s just bad when you end up spending more than you earn and a pile of stuff you never wore! So be careful dear! Hehehe…
Cindy: OMG Syura, I used to do that too!! I’d buy clothes 1 or 2 size smaller in the hopes that I’d lose some weight soon and muat jugak tu. Hahahahaha!!!
Glad to know you’re cured. I think I am too. :-P
